Readings – Comments on today’s Bible readings.

First Reading is a Reading from the Acts of the Apostles:
Paul and Barnabas went to Antioch where they were waving welcome – but there was a faction who were unwelcoming and so Paul and Barnabas left that town to continue their mission elsewhere.

Second Reading is a Reading from the Book of Revelation:
John had a vision of a crowd who were in heavenly Glory – a number impossible to count.  They share in eternal life through Baptism.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John:
Jesus asserts ‘He and the Father are one’ – My sheep listen and follow me to eternal life.

DEVOTIONS:  May is the month in which we praise and recall the wisdom of Mary, the ‘Queen of Heaven’.  We venerate her statue as a reminder to us that She is a sign for us through prayer and
worship – we will attain the glory of Heaven – even in our daily experience of the Word – Jesus – her son in our life.

Memorial Book: The following names are included for MAY.
Agnes Jones (B/day), Alexander Wright Gray, Anthony Lowe, Bernard McKenna,
Bernard Tipller (Anniv & B/Day), Catherine Dootson, Charlie Holland, David Trevor Cookson (B/Day), Florence Mary Cowap, Fr. Willie Fallon (B/Day Anniv.), Jane Schofield, Jean Janice Jones, Joan Jeffries, John Aspinall, John Kirwin, John Saunders, Kevin Bernard Quinn, Lily Whelan, Martin Coates, Mary Ellen Craig, Mary Torkington (B/day), Maureen McClenn nee Smith, Norman Martin (B/day), Phyllis Hunt, Tony
Quirke, Roy Donnelly, Teresa O’Donnell, Thomas Holland, Yolanda Craig (B/day),
                                 Harold Fitzpatrick, Mary Jane Kelly.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God. Rest in Peace.

NOTICES:
HABEMUS PAPAM:   Let us remember to pray for our new Pope, ROBERT FRANCIS PREVOST, who has
chosen the name LEO XIV, that the Holy Spirt will direct him as he shepherds the Universal Church.
Our prayers are with him.

BARBECUE:  The Summer Barbecue was a huge success.  It was a beautiful get-together for the Saturday vigil and Sunday Mass attendees.  There was more than enough to eat and drink and the meals were great.  Special thanks goes to all members of the Social Group for their tireless effort; working day and night to organise lovely events for the Parish.  The Social Group looks forward to organising more programs for our Parish in the future.  We thank them all.   In total, the tombola and donations for the food, tea and coffee raised £467.65.  This will cover the cost of the food and newly purchased gazebo.  Thank you so much for your support and encouragement.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS MEETING:  There will be a brief meeting immediately after Mass this Saturday and Sunday.  Thank you.

MEMORIAL BOOK:
We started the Memorial Book in September 2017.  It has been in constant use since that time and we now 387 names included.  Your generous donations have amounted to £1500 which we used to purchase our office computer and software, along with many consumable items used over the years.
More importantly, it has served to remind our families and friends of our dearly departed loved ones.  The book being situated in Our Lady’s Chapel does help to remind friends at anniversary times and no doubt helps to have them included in their prayers.  The publication of all names within the anniversary month in our weekly newsletter is also a great reminder and conversation starter.
If you would like to include a person, please complete one of the forms which you can find under the Memorial Book and hand to the Priest or post into the Presbytery letterbox.

GREETERS:  Do we have any volunteers attending the Saturday and Sunday Masses that would be willing to stand inside the entrance porch of Church and greet people as they arrive.  It is generally only a matter of saying ‘Good Morning’ and occasionally helping?  It is the standard practice in most Churches.

CHURCH CLEANING:  We are sure that everyone appreciates coming into a nice clean Church and being associated with a fully operational, organised and popular Church.  Your help in keeping our Church respectable is sought.  We have 2 cleaning teams, one after Mass on Thursdays and the other at 6.30pm on Thursday evening.  They operate two weeks apart, so they each have one session per month, which takes about an hour.  There is a rota pinned to the notice board detailing actual dates.  Please help!

RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION:  We are reminded that Christ is present in the tiniest particle of the Holy Eucharist.  We appeal that we carefully check our palms and fingers to ensure that we consume every single particle.  Thank you.
This does not concern those who receive on their tongue.

100 CLUB – APRIL DRAW:
The winner of the April Draw was Bright Nwanze, winning a total of £297.50.  Many congratulations Bright.
